galveston sunrise
It's pretty hard to find people who are down to wake up early enough to see the sunrise. It's even harder to find people who are down to wake up at 3:30 AM to drive down to Galveston just to see the sunrise on the beach. My luck, I found 2 of those people.
There's been this epic new friendship blossoming between me, sarah, and my pal, alyssa. I've been friends with alyssa for quite some time now and she's so much like sarah that I was like yo dude, you guys gotta meet like I already know ya'll are going to love each other.
And, like always, I was right. *hair flip*
These gal pals are both such sweet souls. I don't think i've ever had such wholesome friends. I don't know which is more beautiful, their hearts or their faces. I mean come on just look at these lil sunflowers:
So here's how it went down. We all crashed at my house so that we could ensure nobody "accidentally" missed their alarm (and because we wanted to roast s'mores and eat ice cream). It would have been smart if we went to bed at a decent time but naturally we goofed off and didn't end up dozing off until past midnight.
I don't think I'll ever enjoy the sound of an alarm going off at 3:30AM, but sometimes you have to endure pain for fun (Fifty Shades of Grey, anyone?). After getting ready, grabbing our cameras, and dropping off alyssa's car at her house, we piled into sarah's car and pulled into the first gas station we saw. I think the man who was working was a little taken aback by the fact that three girls showed up at the same time he did. Half dead but semi bright eyed, we each got coffee (p.s. I always have and always will stand by my statement that gas station coffee is so underrated) and got back on the road.
The car ride to Galveston was jam packed with Taylor Swift throwbacks because CAN YOU BELIEVE SHE'S FINALLY ON SPOTIFY, and a whole lot of typical white people beats like All Star and Don't Stop Believin'. Really, we played anything that we figured all of us would know so that we could sing (scream) along to in an attempt to wake up.
As we were nearing Galveston, we ended up having a little race between sarah's car and the sun (hey, a little speeding never hurt anyone...right?). We ended up pulling onto the shore of our favorite little beach just as the sun was started to peak out over the horizon. We all jumped out of the car and ran into the water and spent the morning hanging out and picking flowers.
Once the sun was considerably risen and our hair was soaked from the humidity, we decided to hit up this place called the sunflower cafe that my friend had suggested for their "to die for" chocolate chip pancakes. After everything was said and done, I think alyssa would have gladly given her life for those pancakes.
After breakfast, we walked around the strand. I say walked, not shopped, because we forgot how early it was so nothing was even open yet. Oops. Then, we swung by a starbucks for even more coffee and got back into the car to go home because I had (sadly) work later that day. I think we were all much sleepier on the way home than there because my eyelids felt like they had 40 pound weights on them and alyssa was passed the heck out in the backseat.
Overall, it was such a fantastic morning. 2017 was the year that I saw more sunrises and it's been a pretty successful commitment. I am quite fond of sunrises and sunsets and getting to share breathtaking moments like that with people you love is just so lovely. I adore these people, wow!
